Length Guide

How much hair do I need is a common question, to which there are so many answers. The simplest of which comes from trial and error: your head size; the type and length of weft hair you want; its density; the degree of fullness you want and lastly, if you’re incorporating a closure or frontal.

With that said, there are a few general basics that pretty much work for everyone:

  • You’ll need at least 3 inches of hair for a traditional sew-in weave. Check with your stylist about other extension options for hair that is shorter.
  • A general rule of thumb is that the longer the length of bundles desired, the more hair needed.
  • Virgin hair may require an additional bundle to achieve the fullest look as virgin hair often thins near the ends. Higher density hair, curls or tight waves, may need less bundles, but more length.
  • If you are contemplating a full head sew-in weave for an everyday lifestyle and/or a natural look, we recommend 2 bundles for lengths between 12-16”, even with a closure or frontal. Anything over 16,” add another bundle. See Texture Length Chart.
  • For a glamorous or dramatic look – consider a very long length (22” to 30”) or a very full look –4-5 bundles of hair, even with a closure or frontal.
  • Texture matters. Add an extra bundle for added body.
  • However, note that the more bundles you use, the heavier the hair. Argia Hair bundles generally weigh from 3.5-3.7ounces (100g+/-3).
  • For a partial weave, one bundle should suffice, but it’s best to err on the side of the most natural look. With 2-3 bundles, you can always save what is not used.
  • We recommend keeping a weave in for no longer than six weeks. Matting and tangling particularly along the weft can cause rot or other forms of hair loss or damage. Straight and wavy hair textures can last up to eight weeks. Tight waves or curls can last up to 3 months. Never go beyond 4 months to ensure that your natural hair is not damaged.
  • Always use a weft sealant before installation to ensure that weft remains intact with the hair.
